Timing app
Seasons, Events & Classes
Choosing or creating the season and event, and setting up the event's rules and classes.
Select Event
Timing opens with the Select Event dialog (also available from File › Open…). It's split into two lists:
- Seasons — a season groups events together for points standings. Use New Season / Edit Season to manage them (see Season points).
- Events — the events that belong to the selected season. Pick one and select OK to open it, or New Event… to create one.
An event you no longer need can be removed with Archive Event — you'll be asked to confirm, since this removes it from the active list.
Edit Event settings
Open with Edit › Event (or when creating a new event). These settings apply to the whole event:
| Field | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Name | The event's display name. |
| Runs (course 1 / course 2) | How many timed runs each driver gets on each course. |
| Number of Courses | Run on one course, or two at once (each with its own name, run count, and optional practice runs). |
| Cone Penalty / Gate Penalty | Seconds added to a run for each cone hit or gate missed. Gate penalty can be turned off entirely. |
| Runs to Use | Best Run Only or All Runs — which runs count toward a driver's result. |
| Practice | Marks a course's runs as non-scoring practice. |
| Split 1 / Split 2 | Turns on one or two intermediate timing points and lets you name them (Split 2 requires Split 1 to be enabled). |
| Second Driver + | The number offset used to distinguish a car's second (co-)driver entry from the primary driver's number. |
Note
With two courses, course 1 and course 2 each need a unique name — Timing won't let you save
with matching or blank course names.
Edit Classes
Open with Edit › Classes. This is a grid of every class in the event:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | The class name/abbreviation. Must be unique. |
| Indexed | Whether the class's times are adjusted by an index (PAX) factor for combined results. |
| Novice | Flags the class as novice, for novice-only results. |
| Description | A longer name for the class. |
| Index | The PAX/index multiplier applied to raw times, if the class is indexed. |
| Drivers | Read-only count of drivers currently in the class. |
| Run Group | Which run group (heat) this class runs in by default. |
Use Add Row / Delete Row to manage the list, then Apply to save. A class with drivers already assigned to it can't be deleted. If you close the window with unsaved changes, Timing will ask you to confirm discarding them.
Tip
Preferences has a Use SCCA Classes option that pre-fills the standard SCCA
autocross class list, so you don't have to enter them by hand — see
Preferences Reference.
