Timing app
Overview & Main Window
What Timing does, and how the main window is laid out while an event is running.
What Timing does
Timing is the app that actually scores the event. It receives times from the timing hardware (or accepts manual/keyboard-entered times), tracks which car is staged, on course, or finished, applies penalties, and stores every run in the event database. LiveTiming and Announcer both read from whatever computer is running Timing — it's the single source of truth for the day.
Main window layout
Once an event is open, the main window has:
- Course and Run Group selectors near the top — which course and which heat is currently running.
- Stage Car box — type or scan a car number here to stage the next driver. You can start typing a number or letter anywhere in the window and it jumps to this box automatically.
- A live timer readout showing the current running time and car number once a timer is connected, or “No Timer” / “Timer Closed” when it isn't.
- The run list — a grid of every car staged, on course, or recently finished in the current run group, with columns for Num, Class, Status, Split1, Split2, Penalty, # Runs, Driver Name, and Car Desc.
The menu bar, at a glance
| Menu | What's in it |
|---|---|
| File | Open a different event; import an event (MSR/Pronto); export the run order grid or event data; open season results. |
| Edit | Edit Event settings, Classes, Drivers, Run Groups, and the Audit Grid View. |
| Scanner | Set up a USB barcode/QR scanner, or reset it. |
| (unlabeled tools group) | Setup COM (serial timer), Reset Event, Preferences. |
| Timer | Open/close the connected timer, swap Start/Finish, show a separate Finish Times window. |
| Help | Register…, About…, Shortcuts. |
Tip
The exact order of setup is: create/open the season & event
and set up classes, then load drivers and run groups, then
connect the timer/scanner, then you're ready to
run the event.
